Papa of the Month

Papa Gio would like to congratulate Zach Prowell  for being the Papa of the Month for March 2010!

I am so blessed to share parenthood with Zach—he is such a great papa! From the moment our daughter was born, Lila and Zach had a special connection. I was really struggling with my recovery, and with feeding her. He not only took tender care of me, but he was also very present for her. He made sure I got “mommy time” everyday, and would play with her while I rested.

They would do tummy time and explore the new and exciting world around her. They took naps together on the couch and played on the floor. He would bundle her up in the moses basket and take her outside for fresh air on the deck. He went to Let’s Dish and stocked up on meals then took over making dinner. On top of that, he continued doing laundry so I didn’t have to worry about anything.

We went together to doctor’s appointments and he took notes with his tech toys so we could remember through the fog of sleepless nights what exactly the doctor had said. When the school year started and he went back to work, he would come home from work and she would light right up to see him. He can make her laugh like no one else can.

Now that I’m back at work, we share the responsibilities equally: dishes, dinner, laundry, cleaning, calming a crying baby, feeding, diapering, and dressing her. We joke about how she has him wrapped around her finger but he’s often the one who rationally reminds me that she needs to develop some independence so I shouldn’t swoop in at every little cry. But he also covers her with kisses and comfort when she needs it and he is such a big kid when they play together. We get such a kick out of seeing the world though her eyes. We’re constantly thinking about new experiences for her. In fact, today Zach took her cross-country skiing for the first time—he just bundled her up in the baby bjorn, clipped on the skis, and off they went.

Lila is 7 months old now and we can’t imagine life without her. For my part, I can’t imagine parenting without him.

HeyZach, Congratulations! No one I know deserves Papa of the Month more than you do. I can confirm most everything Shandra said, but I didn't know that he took her cross country skiing in February. Wow, Zach! ~Grandma, Kate Hallett Dayton
